Read Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV):
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. [20] But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. [21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Verse 21 seems to say that what we hunger and thirst for will define us. A person’s actions will be defined by what their heart treasures.
As you look at your actions and what your heart treasures, what do you hunger and thirst for? Wealth? Status? Pleasure? Prestige? Or Christ?
In verse 20, Jesus says to store up treasures in heaven. What does that mean?
Read 1 Timothy 6:18-19 (NIV):
"Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. [19] In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life."
List the three things Paul mentions in verse 18. This is a helpful explanation of how to store up treasures in heaven.
Pray 1 Timothy 6:18-19 back to God, asking Him to give you a hunger and thirst for Him.
