Read Matthew 6:24 (NIV):
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."
It is impossible to hunger for God and for material things, to serve both God and money.
Name one thing in your life that you desire or work hard for.
How does that desire negatively impact your desire for Christ?
Read 1 Timothy 6:9-11 (NIV):
"People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. [10] For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. [11] But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness."
You could even substitute the word “money” with pleasure, status, power, security, etc.
The word “pursue” in verse 11 means to run hard after. Write down the six things you are to run hard after, or hunger and thirst for. (By the way, “gentleness” can be more accurately translated as meekness.)
Ask God to make the pursuit of these six things the hallmark of your life.
