Read James 4:8-10 (NIV):
Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. [9] Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. [10] Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
What promise is given to those who draw near to God?
What steps can you take to draw nearer to God?
What are we to grieve, mourn, and wail over?
How does humbling ourselves before the Lord affect our other relationships?
Read Philippians 2:3-9 (NIV):
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. [4] Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
[5] Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
[6] Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
[7] but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
[8] And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
[9] Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
How does this passage describe the attitude of humility we are to have?
How does it affect our other relationships?
Does humility mean becoming a doormat?
Apply It
